CEMENT MANUFACTURE. The cementmaking process can be divided into two basic steps: Clinker (the main constituent of cement) is first made in a kiln with gas up to 2000°C, which heats raw materials such as limestone (calcium carbonate) with small quantities of other materials ( clay) to 1,450°C.
The cement industry has developed a vision of how the sector could reduce its emissions by 2050. In this Roadmap, the focus is placed on 5 parallel routes that can each contribute to lowering emissions both in terms of cement and concrete production.

In the end, the cement sector ultimately makes concrete. It is concrete that competes with steel, wood and other materials, not cement. Of course, we are aware that the cement manufacturing process is energy and CO 2intensive. We will not try to argue against that.
C EMBUREAU recently hosted its ''Low Carbon Roadmap Progress towards the 2°C target'' in the European Parliament, where it gave an industry update to MEPs. Five years ago the European cement industry published its Low Carbon Roadmap, outlining how CO 2 emissions could be reduced by 32 per cent (compared to 1990 levels) by 2050 with conventional technologies and potentially by 80 per cent .

Quarrying is the first and vital step in cement production and limiting the environmental impacts of this process is an industry priority. Enabling companies to gain access to raw resources such as limestone and clay, quarrying is the foundation of an industry crucial to everything; from the homes we live in, to major public infrastructure projects.
UK: The Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) has appointed Claude Loréa as Cement Director. She will take up the role in early November 2018 and will be based at the association''s offices in London. Loréa joins the GCCA from European cement industry body, Cembureau where she is Deputy Chief Executive and Industrial Affairs Director.

Aug 30, 2012· Cement Manufacturing Process Phase II: Proportioning, Blending Grinding. The raw materials from quarry are now routed in plant laboratory where, they are analyzed and proper proportioning of limestone and clay are making possible before the beginning of grinding. Generally, limestone is 80% and remaining 20% is the clay.

For example, the opportunity for reducing emissions is not limited solely to the cement production process, but is relevant to the whole life cycle of downstream products, namely concrete. In fact, concrete can contribute much more than the cement production process to achieving the EU''s objectives in terms of reducing CO 2 emissions.

necessary to consider briefly the cement production process. Cement production process Cement is considered one of the most important building materials around the world. In 1995 the world production of cement was about 1420 million tonnes (Cembureau, 1997).
Cement mixed with water, sand and gravel forms concrete, which is what the vast majority of cement is used for. Thanks to the special binding properties of cement, concrete is a very resilient, durable material that can bear heavy loads and resist environmental extremes.
Sep 25, 2019· Cembureau, the European Cement Association of which Cemsuisse is a member, forecast a stable year in 2017 following the winddown of infrastructure projects with support from the housing sector. However, it then expected the market to soften as demographic trends saw slower growth in population reduce housing demand.
Cement plays a key, but often unnoticed, role in our lives. Cement is mainly used as a binder in concrete, which is a basic material for all types of construction, including housing, roads, schools, hospitals, dams and ports, as well as for decorative applications (for patios, floors, staircases, driveways, pool decks) and items like tables, sculptures or bookcases.
CEMBUREAU is the European Cement Association. Our primary audience is Europe both policymakers and their relevant stakeholders. In this regard, we communicate the industry''s views on all technical, environmental, energy and downstream issues and policy developments.

The cement industry is also exploring the potential for development of low CO 2 binders. Projects such as Solidia cement, EcoBinder, Celitement, explore the technologies leading to around 30% lower CO 2 emissions in clinker production by using less limestone, a lower clinker burning temperature, and lower grinding energy requirements.
